So you’re thinking about eloping in Colorado—and Breckenridge is on your radar? You’re definitely on the right track.

Breck is one of my favorite places for adventurous elopements, and not just because it’s beautiful, although it definitely is. It’s also easy to get to, offers a ridiculous amount of scenery in a small area, and is one of those rare places that’s great to visit all year round. Whether you’re envisioning wildflowers in the summer, golden aspens in the fall, or a snow-covered ceremony in the middle of winter, Breckenridge has something for every couple who’s ready to ditch the rule book and do things their way.

And I’ll be there to help you every step of the way, but let’s start with this Breckenridge elopement guide.

Why Elope in Breckenridge

Let’s start with the practical stuff: Breck is only about a two-hour drive from Denver, which means you get that remote mountain escape vibe without being, well, actually remote. It’s one of the most accessible mountain towns in Colorado, and once you’re here, it feels like you’ve stepped into a postcard. The downtown is loaded with amazing eats, cozy lodges, and local charm.

But beyond accessibility, what makes Breckenridge truly incredible is the variety. You’ve got alpine lakes, high mountain passes, dense pine forests, open meadows, waterfalls, rocky overlooks, and quiet trails that feel like they’re a world away.

Whether you’re planning something just the two of you or including a few guests (and maybe your dog too), Breck has the space, beauty, and flexibility to make it all happen.

Best Time to Elope in Breckenridge

One of the biggest questions I get is “When should we elope in Breckenridge?” And the truth is, there’s no wrong time. Each season brings something special, and I’ve helped couples create unforgettable days here in every kind of weather. You should definitely consider what kind of scenery, weather, and activities you desire for your day to help you narrow down the season, and we can work our way down from there!

Spring

Spring in the mountains is a bit of a wild card. Snow can linger well into May, especially at higher elevations, and the weather can swing from sunny and 60° to a snowstorm the next day. That said, it’s peaceful, moody, and absolutely magical if you’re into those misty, in-between vibes. Waterfalls start flowing, wildlife starts moving, and the trails begin to thaw. We may need to choose lower elevation locations, but there are some hidden gems that really shine this time of year. Pack layers and have backup plans, but it will be awesome regardless!

Summer

If you’re dreaming of wildflowers, alpine lakes, and long evenings, summer is your season. The trails are open, the temps are warm but not too hot, and the sun sets late. We can hike, explore, paddle board, picnic, whatever you’re into. Just keep in mind that summer is also the most popular season for tourists, so I always recommend weekday elopements or early morning ceremonies for the best light and the most privacy.

Fall

Hands down, one of my favorite times of year in Breck. The aspens turn gold, the air gets crisp, and everything feels calm and cozy. It’s a short season—usually just a few weeks—but if you hit it right, it’s absolutely unreal.

Winter

If you’re into snowy forests, mountain lodges, and cozy après elopement vibes, you’re going to love it here. We can snowshoe out to a private ceremony spot, take a sleigh ride, or even include skiing or snowboarding in your day. Winter does require some extra planning—like warm layers, hot drinks, and backup plans—but I’ve got all of that dialed in so you don’t have to stress.

Best Breckenridge Elopement Locations

There are a lot of beautiful places in and around Breckenridge, from popular scenic overlooks to hidden trails that most visitors drive right past. Below are a few popular locations that offer some seriously beautiful backdrops—but just know, the real magic happens when we personalize it. I always reserve my absolute favorite hidden gems for my couples, so we can protect those sacred spaces and keep the experience as private and meaningful as it should be.

Sapphire Point Overlook

Located just off Swan Mountain Road, Sapphire Point overlooks Dillon Reservoir with panoramic views of the Tenmile Range and surrounding peaks. It’s one of the few locations in the area where you can reserve a space specifically for ceremonies, which makes it a go-to for couples, including a handful of guests. It’s easy to access, so it’s not the most private location, but it definitely is a solid option for your Breckenridge elopement.

Boreas Pass

If you’re eloping in the fall and dreaming of golden aspen groves, Boreas Pass is the place to be. The road itself is a scenic dream, winding up from Breckenridge with pull-offs and trail access all along the way. Once you hit the summit, you’re surrounded by high-altitude meadows, mountain views in every direction, and quiet trails that make you feel completely off-grid.

Blue Lakes

Looking for that “alpine lake with mountain backdrop” vibe without hiking for hours? Blue Lakes is your spot. Just a short drive from Breckenridge, this high-alpine gem offers an unreal turquoise lake surrounded by rugged peaks and rocky slopes. . It’s best accessed in summer and early fall before the road closes for winter. Depending on how much privacy you’re after, we can shoot down by the shoreline or explore the surrounding trails for something quieter and more secluded.

Hoosier Pass

At over 11,500 feet, Hoosier Pass is one of the highest accessible mountain passes in the area—and the views show it. You’ll get expansive, 360° alpine panoramas with rolling tundra, distant peaks, and killer light for both sunrise and sunset. It’s usually quieter than some of the more popular spots, and while you might feel the elevation a bit, the beauty more than makes up for it.

Windy Point Campground

If you’re planning to include a few family members or friends in your elopement, Windy Point is one of the best spots for a small group gathering that still feels deeply connected to nature. Located on the edge of Dillon Reservoir, this group-use area has picnic tables, some shelter, and space to set up a relaxed post-ceremony celebration. The mountain views across the water are stunning, and the whole vibe is peaceful and easygoing. It’s also reservable, which makes planning a bit smoother if you’re coordinating logistics for a larger elopement day.

Note that this location closes seasonally between October and May. You can book it up to 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov.

Still, the best places? Those are the ones we find together. Based on your vibe, your comfort level with adventure, and what kind of scenery feels most like you, I’ll help you pick the perfect ceremony location that’s meaningful, private, and absolutely unforgettable.

Breckenridge Elopement Permits

Depending on your chosen spot, you may need an elopement permit. Some spots (like Sapphire Point) require a site reservation. Others, especially those on national forest land, may require a special use permit depending on the size of your group and whether you’re bringing in decor or vendors. Some locations might not require any permits, especially if it’s just you two and your photographer.

When we work together, I’ll handle the research and walk you through exactly what you need.

Getting Your Marriage License

Getting married in Colorado is actually pretty easy. You’ll need to get your marriage license in person at the Summit County Clerk & Recorder’s Office right in Breckenridge or nearby Frisco.

To get your marriage license, you’ll need to bring a valid ID. The marriage license fee is about $30, but it can vary depending on the county. And that’s it – you can use your marriage license the same day, there’s no waiting period.

And an amazing thing about Colorado is that you don’t need an officiant or any witnesses to elope. You can self-solemnize! You can learn more about that and other Colorado elopement laws here!

Where to Stay

Breck has everything from luxury lodges to cozy A-frame cabins to romantic, off-the-grid Airbnbs. Whether you want to stay in the heart of town or escape to a quiet retreat with mountain views and a private hot tub, I’ll help you find the perfect base camp for your elopement weekend. Here are a few of my favorite picks:

  • Gravity Haus: Modern mountain-chic right downtown, perfect for couples who want to be in the heart of everything.
  • LOGE Breckenridge: An outdoorsy vibe with awesome amenities—think fire pits and gear rentals.
  • Airbnbs & Cabins: Perfect for an intimate elopement stay. Great for getting-ready photos, quiet moments together, or relaxing post-adventure.

Fun Adventure Elopement Activity Ideas

What I love most about eloping is that it’s not just about the ceremony—it’s about creating a full-on experience. Your elopement can be as adventurous, relaxed, or creative as you want. Here are just a few ideas to help make your day unforgettable:

  • Snowshoe through quiet forest trails to your ceremony spot
  • Go for a sunrise hike and say your vows with no one else around
  • Pack a picnic and pop champagne by an alpine lake

Breckenridge Elopement Costs

One of the best things about eloping? You get to invest in what actually matters to you. No huge guest list. No paying for a ballroom you don’t even like. Just the freedom to create an experience that feels like you. Most couples I work with spend anywhere from $5k to $15k total—that includes everything from photography and lodging to florals, attire, travel, and activities. Want to keep it simple and intentional?

You can absolutely plan an incredible elopement for $3k–$5k. If you’re dreaming a little bigger—maybe adding on extra coverage, epic lodging, or a private chef—you’re probably looking at more like $5k–$10k. And for the couples going all out with adventure activities, multi-day coverage, and luxury everything, $10k and up gives you room to dream big.
